The past 24 hours have been a crazyyyyy blur!
In case you can't/don't want to read it all:
-plane ride was awesome.
-Brad and I are roommates, and our apartment is right next to the school.
-We went grocery shopping.
The flight was nice! :) We met a very nice family who told us about some interesting things to do in BsAs [including the "hippie festival", which sounds a bit like a flea market, hahaha], so that was helpful. :)
I can't speak for Lizette and Brad, but I felt that things were chaotic after we got off of the plane. We had to pay a $140 dollar fee to enter Argentina! Not cool! :(. After we got in, we had to convert our money and find the VIP Car to take us to our apartment. That was interesting. We didn't know where to go, and we had to use our extremely basic Spanish. Too funny.
***I'm going to apologize right now for any spelling/grammatical errors, I am SO tired...***
After finding the right place for our VIP car, we had to trust the driver to take us where we needed to go, because we had absolutely no idea where we were going. xDDD
This city is HUGE! I can't wait to explore!!!! :DDD
When we got to our apartment, we met a lady who was cleaning it... she was really helpful and nice even though she couldn't speak English. Haha, I'm seriously having to rely on hand gestures and pictures to understand a lot, which is disappointing... but whatever. I'm here to learn. :)
We also met our roommate, Fabula. I think that's how you spell her name... She said we could call her "Fab", which works out for me, haha. She's from Brazil, so she knows English, Portuguese, some Italian [I think] and now Spanish! Insane! I need to get on her level, haha.
We talked and she recommends that I eat meat while I'm in Argentina, because it will be very difficult to substitute foods for meat down here. :/ I think I'm going to try to stay Pescatarian, but if it becomes too difficult, I may have to eat some meat every once in a while. Blegh.
She steered us in the direction of a local vegetarian restaurant that was about 2 blocks away... It was pretty good! I know I'm not allowed to have a lot/any fresh fruits and vegetables, but I did... I ate a vegetarian plate: salad, rice patty with cheese on it and pureed carrots. It was really interesting, to say the least, hahaha.
We went back to the apartment after eating.
I forgot to mention this earlier, but Fab told us that all the people she's invited to the apartment always mention how nice of an apartment it is! I'm very happy to hear that. :) It's pretty big! There's a kitchen, two toilets, a living room and a balcony. It also came with a television, where we were able to watch the Disney channel for a bit. Fun stuff. xDDD
Anyway, after eating and going back to the apartment, we went down to the grocery store, which is only a block away... the grocery store played U.S. pop music, it was hilarious! Katy Perry's E.T., Rhianna's S&M, P!nk's Raise Your Glass and Justin Bieber's Never Say Never. It was pretty crazy. Brad and I spent a good amount of time looking for some peanut butter and soy milk, but we couldn't find any. We asked Fab, and she told me "Welcome to South America, where there's no soy milk or peanut butter! You're going to need a whole new diet here..." Oh boy. Sounds like funnnn. Heh.
Oh man, I can't wait to learn more Spanish! This lady in the grocery line was trying to ask us to watch her cart, but we really didn't know what she was talking about... hahahaha. Then the cashier was trying to tell us something, but I was just like "Uhhhh... okay." So yea, that was an adventure, to say the least.
I was soooo tired after the grocery store, that we went back to the apartment and sleeeep. I pretty much passed out for a few hours. When I woke up it was dark out. Boooo. It's alright, though. It's also winter, so the days are a lot shorter. Right now, for instance, it's only 9 PM here, so it's 7 [i think?] back home... but it feels like midnight at least! So, I'm surprisingly tired. [Okay, maybe not surprisingly... considering I was averaging about 4-5 hours of sleep a night for the past week. blegh.]
Well, I'm getting pretty tired, so I think I'm going to take a shower, watch a movie and crash.
Goodnight everyone! Hope everyone's doing well! Don't forget to facebook me or something! ;)
